We would want to help lead this next chapter, deepening the culture of English football by making the club a beacon for a modern, progressive, fan-centred approach to ownership. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-reactid=\".3r8ghoaecw.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-9\"><span data-reactid=\".3r8ghoaecw.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-9.0\">&#8220;We want a Manchester United anchored in its proud history and roots in the North West of England, putting the Manchester back into Manchester United and clearly focusing on winning the Champions League.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-reactid=\".3r8ghoaecw.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-11\"><span data-reactid=\".3r8ghoaecw.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-11.0\">The Ineos group, owned by 70-year-old British billionaire Ratcliffe, has a history of investment in sport and owns French Ligue 1 club Nice and Swiss Super League club Lausanne.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-reactid=\".3r8ghoaecw.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-12\"><span data-reactid=\".3r8ghoaecw.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-12.0\">Its sporting portfolio also includes high-profile sailing team Ineos Britannia, led by Sir Ben Ainslie, which is aiming to win the 2024 America&#8217;s Cup for Great Britain.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-reactid=\".3r8ghoaecw.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-13\"><span data-reactid=\".3r8ghoaecw.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-13.0\">Ineos also has a five-year partnership with Formula 1 team Mercedes and took over British-based cycling team Ineos Grenadiers (formerly Team Sky) in 2019.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-reactid=\".3r8ghoaecw.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-14\"><span data-reactid=\".3r8ghoaecw.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-14.0\">Ratcliffe made an unsuccessful late \u00a34.25bn offer to buy Chelsea last year when Russian owner Roman Abramovich put the London club up for sale.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-reactid=\".3r8ghoaecw.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-15\"><span data-reactid=\".3r8ghoaecw.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-15.0\">Ratcliffe &#8211; born in Failsworth, Greater Manchester &#8211; is a boyhood fan of United and one of the UK&#8217;s richest men. His personal wealth is estimated at somewhere between \u00a311bn (Forbes) and \u00a36bn (Sunday Times), which makes him the 27th wealthiest person in the UK <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.co.uk\/sunday-times-rich-list\" class=\"story-body__external-link\" title=\"\" data-reactid=\".3r8ghoaecw.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-15.$link-2\"><span data-reactid=\".3r8ghoaecw.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-15.$link-2.0\">on the Sunday Times Rich List.<\/span><span class=\"gs-u-ml- gel-icon\" style=\"height:15px;width:15px;\" data-reactid=\".3r8ghoaecw.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-15.$link-2.1\"><svg viewbox=\"0 0 32 32\" data-reactid=\".3r8ghoaecw.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-15.$link-2.1.0\"><title data-reactid=\".3r8ghoaecw.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-15.$link-2.1.0.0\">external-link<\/title><path d=\"M12 0v5h11.5l-5 5H0v22h22V17.5l-2 2V30H2V12h14.5l-7.8 7.7 3.6 3.6L27 8.5V20h5V0H12z\" data-reactid=\".3r8ghoaecw.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-15.$link-2.1.0.1\"\/><\/svg><\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-reactid=\".3r8ghoaecw.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-16\"><span data-reactid=\".3r8ghoaecw.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-16.0\">His petrochemicals firm Ineos makes about \u00a350bn in annual sales and employs more than 26,000 people across 29 countries.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-reactid=\".3r8ghoaecw.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-17\"><span data-reactid=\".3r8ghoaecw.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-17.0\">Following his failure to acquire Chelsea, Ratcliffe said he would have tried to buy United but, after meeting with brothers Joel and Avram Glazer, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/sport\/football\/63225409\" class=\"story-body__internal-link\" title=\"\" data-reactid=\".3r8ghoaecw.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-17.$link-2\"><span data-reactid=\".3r8ghoaecw.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-17.$link-2.0\">he stated that they did not want to sell<\/span><\/a><span data-reactid=\".3r8ghoaecw.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-17.3\"> &#8211; a stance that has now changed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-reactid=\".3r8ghoaecw.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-18\"><span data-reactid=\".3r8ghoaecw.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-18.0\">At least two offers for United from the United States are expected, while there have also been suggestions of interest from Saudi Arabia.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-reactid=\".3r8ghoaecw.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-19\"><span data-reactid=\".3r8ghoaecw.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-19.0\">That means there could be up to five parties trying to negotiate a full sale, with others looking to make a smaller investment in return for a partial stake in the club.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-reactid=\".3r8ghoaecw.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-20\"><span data-reactid=\".3r8ghoaecw.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-20.0\">The Glazer family have owned United since 2005 and in November confirmed they wanted to &#8220;explore strategic alternatives&#8221;
